Lately I have had the urge to watch only Gothic inspired films and read Horace Walpole. Must be all of the 'vampire chic' I am currently obsessing over. The Givenchy Fall/Winter 2009 campaign has a suitably vampire-esque feel to it. I find this photograph particularly stunning. The stark contrasts of black and white are gorgeous. I cannot praise this campaign enough. Riccardo Tisci, you are a God.

Anna Wintour's best cover is still the November '88 issue of Vogue US. Model Michaela Bercu wore acid washed Levis and a Christian Lacroix jacket. The look was very controversial at the time. Prior to this no model had worn anything as casual as jeans on a cover, but the styling is so perfect. Even today I find this look flawless. It's casual chic -- the perfect mix of street and couture that never fails. And, of course, I would die for that Lacroix jacket.

this editorial resembles a pseudo 90s abercrombie & fitch ad. but much more badass- it's from jalouse. still, since i started down the nostalgia road in my last post i might as well continue it here. back in high school i was an avid a&f catalogue subscriber. i read it religiously and owned more abercrombie slogan tees and hoodies than one should ever own. and in case you are wondering, i'd say one should own about zero. however, i was naive and in my teens. i adored the catalogues and used to plaster the photographs all over my room. one of my favourite pictures was of a girl sitting in the bleachers at a football game wearing her boyfriend's jacket. cliché, yes. but such a classic high school image. and i think that's what i love about these photos from jalouse. they have that air of teenage mischief and innocence about them. like maybe those girls are totally ditching class to go hang out with some cute boys on the playground...

Let's talk fashion - it's been a while. Well, it's been a while since I've talked runway fashion. So here it goes. I basically died after reviewing the Spring/Summer 09 Couture shows. This is why.... One of my favourite periods in Art History was brought to life on the catwalk by one of my all-time favourite designers- Mr. John Galliano. I am loving his 17th century Dutch inspired collection for Christian Dior. The pure, saturated yellows and blues are so reminiscent of Vermeer's Milkmaid. And those rich, satiny fabrics... Gerard TerBorch anyone?! It is all very Delft. And a tad Dirk Hals (I'm thinking Merry Companies). And yet how ironic, creating a collection inspired by the Golden Age - an era of increasing wealth and luxury- during our own economic crisis. Perhaps this isn't ironic at all, but rather an attempt by Galliano to make us forget the current recession. To quote the monsieur himself: "There's a credit crunch, not a creative crunch...it's our job to make people dream" (source). And now I think I shall read some Simon Schama...

Tim Walker is still one of my favourite photographers. His photographs for British Vogue's Fantasy issue are fantastic. They make me want to prance around my backyard in tutus and hair bows. I think this was one of the best British Vogue's in a long time. I had actually stopped reading it for a while as I wasn't finding myself excited by the editorials in the same way I am by Paris Vogue or Vogue Italia. And I have completely given up on American Vogue. It's so.... blah? Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon do not do it for me as cover models. Especially when the photograph consists of either one of them simply looking at the camera with a forced smile on their face and wearing a somewhat conservative blue dress. No thank you. So kudos to British Vogue because the Fantasy issue was truly fantastical- and well worth the $12.00 to purchase the mag in Canada. And while I'm on the topic of all things fantastical, I may as well post the new song by Chairlift - yes, Brooklyn continues to dominate the current music scene. Andy says 'Bruises' reminds him of me. We decided that the music video should feature myself wearing a tutu or some kind of lolita garb while dancing in a field of lillies. I think it would be quite fitting for the song. Maybe Sofia Coppola could direct it. Just a thought.

Meet: New York party girl/photo agent/Terry Richardson's gf, miss Jen Brill. Aka, my new girl crush. Aside from the above titles I don't really know that much about her. I do however know that she recently curated an exhibit at Colette in Paris and that while there, she enjoyed cavorting around with André and his crew. I also know that J. Brill loves her purple YSL tribute heels as she has been spotted - on numerous occasions - sporting them on the Sartorialist and Style. And although she does somewhat resemble the ideal AA poster child, I am completely enamored with this girl. I think I'm drawn to the whole back to basics vibe she emits. Bare face (with a dash of rouge on the lips), uncomplicated hair-cut and simple yet cool outfits. It's all very Emmanuelle Alt. Very 'unaffected' cool yet a tad risqué. Think Paris Vogue meets American Apparel meets uptown New York? Jen Brill is the ultimate New York 'it' girl.

I am 'Condition Reporting' this weekend for my Conservation Principles course. It's fun. "Costume bodice: tan silk cord and ivory grosgrain...". I am also writing an essay for my Dutch Baroque Painting class on the depiction of Merry Companies in the 17th century, studying for my Mannerist Painting, Sculpture and Architecture slide test AND I am writing an essay on ideal feminine beauty in Parmigianino's Madonna Della Rosa. Oh and I am using Benvenuto Cellini's autobiography as a primary source. Aside from all of the academics.... I jammed my hand in a door and sliced it open which - quelle surprise - resulted in a trip to the hospital. It was slightly traumatic.

The new mid drift: upper ab exposure. This exposed bit is very avant guard and hardly improper, compared to a belly button ring hanging over a pair of love handled low rise denim. And of course K.Moss looks insane with this lace crop top. I'd say Miss Dellal is the entrepreneur of this look. I need this outfit.

I can't stop looking at the Alexander Wangs Spring 2008 runway collection. I am dying for the grey sweat shirt with leather fringe down the back (that you can only fully see when you watch the video). I want to know what the makeup artist put on their faces to create this look of sexy hot sweat. The half pony tail that I havn't worn since grade 2 has finally made a come back. I want to own everything.

I am obsessed with these photographs at the moment! Penelope truly is the original Irina. Look at that hair!!! Not to mention the clothing, the facial expression and her gamine-like pose.

I spent the greater part of my teenage years wanting to be 'of age' so that I could go clubbing and do... I guess things that only people 'of age' could do. I'm not sure what those things are anymore but they seemed really important at the time. Well, now I am 'of age' and all I want is to be underage again. Yes. I want to be underage so that I can go to the We Are Underage parties and be friends with Victor. Victor is too-cool-for-school. He throws these COOL parties for him and his underage pals and gets Busy P, Mehdi, MSTRKRFT etc., to dj for them! How fantastic. These kids are my new idols. They are French hipsters in training.
And they wear their sunglasses at night.
Nike even threw an underage party that was 'interdit' to people over the age of 18...it would have been the perfect opportunity to use Maura's ID - she's still 18.

Neon Hearts' pal Max attended the soiree and was kind enough to fill us in on all the juicy tidbits. It appears the ladies made separate entrances with Samantha arriving first - she was after all the evening's dj. Miss Lohan strolled in a little later (with her usual swarm of bodyguards) and proceeded to spend the rest of the night on her blackberry.
I wonder who Lilo was texting? A wedding planner perhaps? She was sporting what looks like an engagement ring on the appropriate finger...

And... apparently Lohan's most scandalous moment consisted of smoking a ciggy indoors.....GASP.... Could it be that everyone's favourite ex party girl/frequent rehab attendee is finally ready to settle down?

A girl you should know: Mickey Green...

From Australia. Moved to Paris. Was a model, now a singer, with one of the best albums of the summer. I bought her album White Tshirt in Paris before I left and her top song OH! was literally playing in every shop in France.

After being spotted next to C. Schiffer and Charlotte Gainsbourg at the last Chanel Couture show, Miss Green has reached ITgirl status. I like her cd so much I want to go platinum and bleach my eyebrows.

Picnicking in France with Gaetan and Mimou... The boys took bijou and I to the countryside one Monday after school. It was lovely. I took some photos with the Holga and well, they didn't exactly turn out how I had expected. But they've started to grow on me. There is a haunting quality to them that I find quite beautiful... it gives me the same eerie feeling as Elle Muliarchyk's photographs.
